Xiaomi has unveiled the new HyperOS

While the company said that HyperOS will first be installed on Xiaomi’s 14-series smartphones, it did not give an idea of what the software will look like.

Xiaomi has announced a new operating system called HyperOS. The company confirmed that it will be available globally and will debut on the upcoming Xiaomi 14 series smartphones. HyperOS will also gradually replace Xiaomi’s outdated MIUI operating system, which is 13 years old.

HyperOS will be used in a host of Xiaomi products beyond smartphones. The company claims that the new software will unify its entire ecosystem of products across 200 categories, including smart home devices, cars, etc.

“In 2014, when the IoT business started to take shape, we started research development and validation. In 2017, we officially started research and development of a new system that will support all environmental devices and applications with an integrated system framework. This is our aspiration,” Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun wrote in a post on Weibo.

HyperOS is “based on the integration of deeply modified Android and self-developed Vela system, the system has completely rewritten the underlying architecture and is preparing a public base for the Internet of Everything for tens of billions of devices and tens of billions of connections in the future,” Jun explained.

While the company said that HyperOS will first be installed on Xiaomi’s 14-series smartphones, it did not give an idea of what the software will look like. There are no details about its new features either. Presumably the company will reveal more information when it unveils the new flagships later this month.
