Chess.com and Supercell have announced a month-long partnership for September 2023, featuring a series of events and a new Clash-inspired chess variant.
Starting September 1, Chess.com will introduce a series of new bots for the game based on the Clash universe, including Barbarian, Valkyrie and Goblin. Starting September 1, Spell Chess will be launched, where players will be able to augment their chess strategy with two magic spells, Jump and Freeze. On September 8, the first Spell Chess Arena chess board will appear on the site, where players of all levels will be able to compete under the new rules.
In addition, two new clubs based on the Clash universe have appeared on Chess.com, allowing users to choose teams for a month – King’s Clash Royale Club or Barbarian’s Clash of Clans Club.
Chess.com and Supercell will make a charitable donation based on the clans’ results in the finals. In addition, Chess.com will introduce new bots created in the image of the winning clans, which will be live until early November. The tournament will be streamed on Twitch and YouTube with commentary from streamers Danny Rensch, Clash With Eric, and Ludwig..
Chess is one of the oldest board games on the planet, and it has regained popularity in recent years, thanks in part to the release of the series “The Queen’s Gambit” on Netflix during the pandemic, which Netflix itself capitalized on by releasing a related game. Despite this, there is a perception that the game has little to offer modern gamers, and Chess.com attempts to address this. Supercell is one of the largest mobile game makers in the world, and this crossover could change the perception of the game significantly.
