Epic Games has a mobile game and app store ready

Epic Games is in full swing developing its online store and today they launched tools for self-publishing video games. But everything is going to the fact that the Epic store will appear on iPhone and Android.

The company behind Fortnite and Unreal Engine has big ambitions to change the global game and app market. “I have always believed that there is a tipping point that we are getting closer and closer to,” says Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney, “a new breakthrough, a new Cambrian or evolutionary event in store history, which will take us out of the doldrums in which we stuck for so long.”

He notes that most digital platforms “have a single store charging a fee that is much, much higher than any physical store charges as a markup on goods.”

On PC, the Epic Games Store is trying to get closer to rival Steam, which it immediately challenged at launch in late 2018 by offering developers an 88/12 revenue split rather than the traditional 70/30.

Epic is also suing Apple and Google, with mixed success , over their policies on third-party app stores. The end goal, according to Sweeney, is to launch the Epic store on iOS and Android, which he believes will eventually resolve legal issues and regulatory pressure (when asked if Epic has apps for those platforms). , built and ready to deploy, Sweeney replies, “Yes, we have them”).

And further. While Sweeney doesn’t express a flamboyant ambition to bring the Epic Games Store to Xbox, PlayStation or Switch, he does say that Epic wants to work with all platforms to “align with some industry standards for recognizing player rights and social systems.” In other words, buy a game on one device and own it everywhere, connect with a friend on one platform and be connected anywhere.
