Bumble for Friends: a solution to a non-existent problem?

This standalone app can give us the answer and we can see how in demand friendly swipes are.

Bumble wants you to search apps and friendships. It’s not even a very new feature – the BFF feature that was responsible for this appeared in the main Bumble app in 2016. New is a standalone Bumble for Friends app that was released recently.

But the question is, do people really need an app to find friends?

This standalone app can give us the answer and we can see how in demand friendly swipes are.

The Bumble with Friends app was launched in March and was officially released in stores at the end of July.

AppFigures estimates that Bumble for Friends has been downloaded 97,000 times since its official launch. More downloads came from Google Play than from the App Store, but overall the two numbers are fairly similar.

At the moment, the app is only available in a small number of (mostly) English-speaking countries, but the United States leads the way in terms of downloads.

But does it generate income?

At the moment, Bumble for Friends net income amounted to 56 thousand dollars. Net income is what Bumble gets after Apple and Google take their cut.

As with downloads, most of the revenue comes from the US. But unlike downloads, most of the revenue — 79% — comes from the App Store.

By comparison, Bumble’s flagship app has been downloaded 1.2 million times over the same period and generated $21 million in net revenue.

Two weeks is not enough time to evaluate the results, so we will return to this issue in a few months.
