MeowTalk – Сat translator
Using Data Science and Machine Learning, MeowTalk offers a translation into human language, of the sounds a cat makes.

Javier Sanchez, a project manager at Akvelon, has created an app to translate cat meows – MeowTalk. He hopes to change the way people interact with their cats.
Using Data Science and Machine Learning, MeowTalk offers a translation into human language, of the sounds a cat makes. The patterns can be further trained and thus the app can be taught to understand a specific cat or cats.
“For a while, I worked on the machine learning platform team at Alexa,” said Sanchez, who worked for a year and a half at Amazon. – And I saw them training their models and working with all the data analytics platforms. So I thought we could do something similar with cats in an app.”
MeowTalk works with a model that listens to cat meows in your home and then categorizes those sounds into 10 built-in intentions universal to all cats.
However, Sanchez says cats don’t have a common language; each will have a different vocabulary that the cat will use all the time. Users can create their own cat profiles and assign meows to new labels in MeowTalk if they think they know what their cat is asking for.
The cat translation app is expected to be just the first step – Akvelon is also developing a smart collar that will listen to meows and automatically translate them into human words. Or, if the cat is outside and needs to be let in, the meow will trigger the collar to send a text message to the person in the house.
